Thanks for your suggestion. Ideally, if we are able to successfully negotiate a good price with various newspapers, then students will be able to use existing news aggregation apps to view them in one place (Apple News, Google Play Newsstand, Flipboard, etc). In this case, you would be able to log in to news websites with your Williams ID and password, so you could use any news app of your choosing.
If we are unable to purchase a bulk subscription (either due to price, or other unforeseen reasons), then our plan B will be to work with the library to make the database services they have more accessible for daily news. I agree that currently it is not a great experience to read the New York Times using the library database, since the system is mostly designed for people accessing historical articles.
We will update this thread when we get cost estimates from newspapers and determine the feasibility of continuing with the bulk subscription route.
