You are very right to point out that the fact that Williams provides free condoms (not to mention many other less necessary free items), but does not yet provide free hygiene products which are essential for at least 50% of our student body, is a big problem, and highlights just one of the ways in which our campus still has work to do to become equitable for all students.
Having done some more research, our preferred implementation plan would be for tampons and pads to be included as a bathroom stocking item for the custodial team. We feel that this approach would be the best way to guarantee consistent availability of these items (they would be stocked just as custodians already stock bathrooms with toilet paper, soap, etc).
At this point, it is our understanding that College Council has taken up this issue themselves. Since GIC is a College Council sub-committee, we usually try to avoid overlapping projects with them so as not to waste resources. However, due to the importance of this issue, I will follow up with College Council to offer support if that would help them implement a solution.
